A look at two universities near Cleveland

As the Juniors go on more college visits, here’s a look at two colleges just a few miles from Cleveland.

Case Western Reserve University

Case sits just 4 miles from downtown Cleveland and is considered a medium-sized private university. An estimated cost for In-state and on campus is $67,332. There are about 5,200 current undergrads, and the student to faculty ratio is 11 to 1.

The focus of their degrees deal with the STEM subjects, but that does not mean students cannot be creative while there. Near the campus sits Severance Hall (where the Cleveland Orchestra performs), the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Museum of Contemporary art. Also, Case has an amazing opportunity known as the Sears Think[Box]. This opportunity offers space and materials for students to build and create.

Good food is always near at Case; it has many chain restaurants and is near Little Italy. If on tour, students will learn Mitchell’s is a favorite spot. From CWRU, students generally enter the workplace or pursue advanced degrees.

John Carroll University

$59,892 is the estimated cost for in-state and on campus students. John Carroll is smaller than Case with around 3,000 current undergrads; however, the students to faculty ratio is 13 to 1. Typically, 84% of the freshmen return for sophomore year and 78% graduate in 6 years. The focus of degrees is Business and Marketing; however, they do offer many more degrees, such as journalism/communications, social sciences, and education. They have what is known as the Boler College of Business, which is a point of pride for them since it is ranked in the top of business universities.

College is finding the right fit for each student, so going on tours and knowing a little about each college can be very helpful when making the decision.
