Aldredge takes next step towards West Point

Senior Graham Aldredge is attending West Point University in the fall of 2019. Not only does attending West Point take hard work and dedication, but applying for the college takes over a year of countless essays, medical examinations, fitness assessments, and interviews with not only cadets, but Congress.

West Point is a beautiful and unique college. Not only known for their military prestige, but overall stature. The campus is beautiful, full of grey stone buildings, a historic chapel, and natural elements, but the young ladies and gentlemen who attend the campus and their bond, are what makes West Point so special.

Aldredge states, “I’m excited to meet my fellow cadets and to build relationships with them in ways that a normal college student might not experience, like bonding over gunfire and tear gas... sounds fun.”

Some things many people may not know about West Point’s college experience is that every student has to join a sport. Aldredge plans on playing football, track, or maybe even joining the Ultimate Frisbee team.

Students also cannot declare a major until their second year of attendance at West Point. In the academic sector of college, Aldredge is hoping to study management with a minor in biological sciences and chemistry, this will give him the greatest opportunity to be successful in the workforce, after his military leave.

Aldredge’s future will look very different from his fellow high school graduates. Attending West Point to graduate and become a second lieutenant in the United States Army. After this, Adredge will undergo his 5 year active-duty commitment, being deployed to different military bases around the world in order to continue his service.

Aldredge states, “I’ve always felt a calling to serve my country, and I feel as though I have the skill sets necessary to be an effective leader and officer in our military.”

Aurora High School wishes Aldredge good luck as he takes on new beginnings and challenges at West Point University.
