Insatiable
Netflix has released the original series “Insatiable” which stars Debby Ryan as main character Patty. “Insatiable” seems to be taking on an adult version of a Disney tv show featuring comedy and teen drama .
The show begins with Patty, Debby Ryan, as an overweight girl facing bullying in high school. When she is punched by a homeless man and has her mouth wired shut she comes into senior year looking pageant perfect. When pageant coach and lawyer, Bob, sees Patty he instantly offers to coach her. Through the 12 episodes of season one Patty makes many mistakes and we see her struggle with family, friends, and relationships. As the show goes on we see the different truths and struggles that each character faces. Pageant coach, Bob, and Patty’s best friend, Nonnie, discover that they are gay. Pageant star, Magnolia, struggles with drugs and rehab. Patty realizes that she might be letting her new confidence change the way she is treating people.
The series takes on real life issues in high school but make sure to keep the show entertaining with humor and drama.
Information has been released stating that there will be a second season of “Insatiable” released at some point in 2019.
Some viewers may be upset by some features of the show. Insatiable’s view of overweight people may be taken in a negative matter because they put Debby Ryan in a very obvious and dramatic fat suit. They portray the idea that all overweight people are losers and cannot be successful. They exaggerate the importance of beauty throughout the plot. Along with this, the show brings up some inappropriate and controversial topics.
Strengths of the show would include the humorous content and the variety of characters. They keep viewers guessing and the show interesting with the different relationships between characters. However, I feel like the overall acting and plot of the show is very cheesy and can get obnoxious.
Overall, it was not my favorite Netflix original show but it was entertaining. I would recommend watching “Insatiable” to see how you like it.
