MLB The Show 19 knocks it out of the park
MLB The Show 19 is developed by San Diego Studios and is available on Playstation 4. It was released worldwide on March 26, 2019. Bryce Harper is the featured cover athlete. Matt Vasgersian, Dan Plesac, and Mark DeRosa are the commentators.
MLB The Show is the best and only true baseball simulation game available on console. Players can ‘Play Now’ as any team. Other game modes include Diamond Dynasty, Franchise, Road to the Show, and Retro Mode. Diamond Dynasty allows players to build any lineup they want with current and past players that are featured as Topps baseball cards. Franchise mode allows the user to take over any MLB Franchise of their choice and lead them to a World Series title. Road to the Show allows players to create themselves and then play their way to the MLB. Lastly, retro mode takes players back to the early days of video games.
San Diego Studios is a video game development team established in 2001. Besides MLB, they have also worked on the NBA series,The Mark of Kri, Pain, High Velocity Bowling, and Sports Champions. Since SDS is subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment, they only develop games for PlayStation consoles. They have over 90 employees that work together on each project. The MLB Series started in 2006 with MLB 06: The Show.
The biggest strength of MLB The Show is that it is the only true baseball simulation game available. Since 2014, it has stood alone. The game offers fans the ability to play with their favorite players and teams in a realistic setting which is something that cannot be offered anywhere else. The gameplay is realistic and the commentators adapt to each situation in-game to provide realistic commentary. Each player wears their authentic gear and look as they do in real life. All 30 Major League stadiums are in the game as well as 10 legendary stadiums.
Players can also download minor league rosters for their franchise mode to make it as realistic as possible. The one weakness is that some animations in the game are unrealistic. However, the developers are updating the game every day to get rid of any glitches that arise. The other possible drawback is that the game is only available on PlayStation.
Overall, buying this game is a no-brainer if you are interested in a realistic baseball game. The quality is second-to-none and the community has grown nearly three times its own size in one year. Players are helpful and love to talk baseball. San Diego Studios is constantly dropping new updates to fix the game and provide players new content to work towards. If you love sports and have a PlayStation, this is the game for you!
