Proposal for Promenade to be introduced into Aurora High School

In England and Ireland, it is known as the “Debutante’s Ball”; In Germany, it is called the Abifeier; in Austria, it is called the Maturaball; in Sweden, it is called the Studentbalen. Here in the United States of America, we know it as a milestone; prom.

Here at Aurora prom is a huge event where fundraising for After prom begins months in advance. That is why I want to propose an additional way to raise money for prom

In many high schools around the country a Promenade is held at the high school in form of a “send off” to prom. A promenade can compose of many different events; however, the most common is the introduction of dates. Normally, the school will hold it in the gym, auditorium or football stadium. At Promenade each couple is given the opportunity to walk and be introduced in front of their peers and families.

I strongly believe Aurora High School should hold promenade not only for the pure factor of fun but for the factor of fundraising. I believe that if this could become a well known event before all students arrive at prom, many students would participate in it.

Senior Nicole Doemling states, “ I believe this could be such a fun event. It would be so memorable to be able to see who goes together, what dresses are worn and simply just everyone dressed up. I think this should be proposed to our Student Council or even NHS because we could use it for fundraising!”

At Aurora High School we could use pormanade as a huge fundraiser to go towards the next years After Prom committee. This money would go towards decorations, games, prizes and everything it takes to make After prom so great.

The way Promenade fundraising would work would be that each couple would have to pay a small entry fee in order to walk. As for the families it would simply be a small cost per person in order to get in to watch and take pictures as their son/daughter.

Senior Vera Demerjian explains, “ I really do think Aurora would get a great turn out for this event. Our community is all about supporting fundraisers and if Promenade was advertised properly I think this really could be the start of a new tradition.”

All in all, I strongly believe Aurora High School should consider introducing a Promenade into the many amazing events for prom. Not only would this event allow the opportunity for a ton of amazing memories, it will also tremendously help the After prom committee with fundraising.
