"Shazam" electrifies in theaters

DC’s latest superhero installment “Shazam” opened over the weekend on Friday, April 5th. The highly anticipated movie shocked audiences with an outstanding 92% on rotten tomatoes and a 7.8/10 on IMDb, the movie is one of DC’s highest rated movies and dare I say one of it’s its best.

“Shazam” stars Zachary Levi in the titular role and Asher Angel as alter ego Billy Batson. The story follows Billy’s journey from loner foster kid to superhero who learns what it means to be a part of a family. Along the way he battles the villainous Dr. Sivanna (Mark Strong), but Billy has to set aside his own ambitions and become the hero he was meant to be in order to save the world from the might of Dr. Sivanna.

With the wisdom of Solomon, strength of Hercules, stamina of Atlas, power of Zeus, courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury, the movie is sure to be visually thrilling, and it was. The barrage of powers and the transformation between Billy and Shazam are both extremely eye pleasing and handle well so they are not overwhelming.

Filled with humor throughout the movie, “Shazam” takes a detour from the dark tone of former DC movies. With hints of a coming of age story mixed with a superhero drama, the movie is a breath of fresh air from the basic plot lines of superhero movies.

DC's latest offering, “Shazam” tells a classic superhero story of Earth's Mightiest Mortal and keeps the audience entertained from start to finish with it’s pleasing visuals and deep story-line. With a hoard of movies coming out this month, “Shazam” is one you will not want to miss.
