Tuuli Prinen; Art Prodigy
AP Art has proven to be one of the hardest AP classes with its gigantic amount of dedication. There are only four students in this class, Senior Tuuli Prinen having one of the most inspiring stories.
Prinen started doing art as a kid and loved the activity. Her mother is also a painter, but Prinen never took any classes or attended any camps. She started art her sophomore year of high school and jumped from Art 2 to AP Art, an extremely daunting task.
Prinen says, “It was very intimidating going straight from Art 2 to AP Art because I felt like I was not as prepared as everyone else in the class. Going into the class, I did not know how to paint but I learned quickly and soon I felt comfortable in the class.”
The AP students must complete and enter 24 pieces of art and Prinen hopes to get a good score. So far she has won 5 gold keys, 3 silver keys, and 2 gold portfolios for the Scholastics Art show, as well as having the Governor's Art Show in Columbus accept 5 more of her pieces.
Her favorite piece of art yet is the one she just completed, named “Inception.” It's a large 6x4 feet oil painting which accurately represents how far she’s come as an artist this year.
Art Teacher, Sean Berrodin, says, “It has been an absolute pleasure working with Tuuli. Getting into the art program late she found her voice there and committed to extraordinary goals.”
Prinen has a bright future ahead of her as she plans on attending Miami University in the fall with a major in Communication Design. As the seniors, including Prinen, plan on painting their school mural for internship, AHS sends well wishes for her and the rest of her artistic career!
