Can we put a price on good health?
For some teenagers, it has become an obsession to workout and eat healthy but should the cost of a good well- being be so expensive? In my opinion, eating healthy and going to the gym should not be as expensive as it is. I have recently taken an interest in exercising and eating healthier and although my parents pay for my food, I can see that the cost of exercising at a facility is going to destroy my bank account.
According to Dr. Thomas Gaziano at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, “Studies show that fresh plant-based foods can lead to healthier hearts and fewer health problems, but for many, the produce aisles are economically out of reach.”
This study demonstrates the importance of eating nutritious foods, although some eat healthy for the sole purpose of staying thin or losing weight, it is also important for health in general to eat foods that will energize your body.
Harvard University School of Public Health conducted a study which showed that the yearly cost to eat healthy is $547.50 more per person yearly, This study proves that eating healthy is much more costly and some may not be able to afford good health.
Being that one of the main causes of obesity is the increased price in healthier foods, things should be cheaper. When people are struggling to make ends meet, they will try to spend less money on food and try to spend more money on bills but people shouldn’t have to worry about things like this.
Another way to become healthier is by going to the gym, many choose this approach to lose weight and stay fit but the cost for a membership can be quite pricey. Some places offer discounts for students and teenagers but the cost is often still high.
A reported 87% of Americans say that paying for the gym or fitness clubs are a high priority and teenagers spend about $65 a month on gym memberships and workout accessories which is way too much money, with the discount.
On the other hand, some people feel that the cost of good health is priceless but shouldn't teenagers and those who are in a lower economic class be able to workout and eat healthy as well?
Overall, being healthy should not be a worry. Access to a gym and nutritious foods should always be open to everyone so that those who want to can lead a healthy lifestyle.
