My Hero Academia smashes in delivery and charm
My Hero Academia (Boko No Hero Academia if you are referring to the Japanese Name) is a both an anime and a manga created by Kohei Horikoshi. The anime can be viewed on Funimation, an anime streaming service.
In this universe, 80% of the human population have supernatural abilities known as quirks. Izuku Midoriya, who has aspirations of becoming a hero like his idol, All Might, is one of the 20% of people without a quirk. He is constantly bullied by his frenemy, Katsuki Bakugo, and his gang for being quirkless. Midoriya has struggled with his quirkless identity his entire life and contemplates if he will ever become a hero.
One day while walking home from school, Midoriya is attacked by a slime monster that is about to devour him. Fortunately, he is rescued by All Might. Desperate for more questions, Midoriya follows his idol around to the point where he grabs on to him while he lifts himself off the ground. To Midoriya's surprise, it is revealed that All Might’s muscular form is not his real form and can only keep his quirk active for a few hours a day after an excruciating battle with a villain.
When Midoriya asks All Might is he can become a hero, All Might is doubtful of him due to his lack of having a quirk. Devastated, Midoriya contemplates his existence. However, while walking back home, he notices that Bakugo is being attacked by the same villain. All Might does not want to help Bakugo because he is not in his muscular form everyone is familiar with.
WIthout thinking of the consequences, Midoriya tries to save Bakugo by throwing his backpack, which gives All Might the inspiration to defeat the slime monster. Enlightened by Midoriya’s bravery, All Might gives him the option to inherit his quirk by undergoing vigorous training for the next U.A. (an academy where students train to become heroes) tryouts.
With multitudes of hard work, Midoriya is able to place seventh in the competition without earning a single point for defeating an enemy. All of his points come from saving Ochako Uraraka, a friend of Midoriya’s with a gravity quirk. WIth no surprises, Bakugo places first with his explosion quirk.
Throughout Midoriya’s journey in UA, he makes various friends, encounters villains, participated in several events, and stays determined to become a pro hero.
My favorite part of My Hero Academia is the Hero Killer Arc when Tenya Iida gets revenge on Stain a.k.a. The Hero Killer for attacking and paralyzing his brother. My second favorite part is the sports festival in which the students of UA fight against each other.
Speaking of Iida, he is my favorite character in the entire anime due to his leadership skills and lovable personality.
One great thing about My Hero Academia is the diversity of characters. If do not enjoy a particular character, you are bound to like another. This applies for both the heroes and the villains.
Most audiences would be comfortable with watching My Hero Academia. The violence is nowhere near as graphic as something like Attack on Titan, but there are a few scenes that may make people wince.
Overall, My Hero Academia, is by far my favorite anime series due to its diverse selection of characters and interesting plot.
