New Netflix Original is a huge hit
For those of you completely fascinated by the superhero universe and TV shows “The Umbrella Academy” is a must see for you. The series was created by Steve Blackman and Jeremy Slater, based on the Dark Horse comics by Gerard Way. From the start of the first episode you are immediately immersed into this strange world that plays by its own rules.
The series runs for 10 episodes and is brand new to Netflix. The shows starts with telling the story of the seven children that are members of The Umbrella Academy that are all grown up now after a childhood spent in the limelight. It all began one day in 1983, 43 babies were born to mothers who were not pregnant the day before. Seven of them were purchased by billionaire, Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore), who trains them up as The Umbrella Academy to fight crime with their many different “powers”. Over the years, most of the seven children went on their own as they reached adulthood, but the death of their adoptive father brings them all back together. Unknowingly they are brought together by fate or something more than what they thought.
I personally LOVED this show. I was very skeptical at first to start watching, but I am so thankful I did. From the first episode you are drawn in by the suspense and the awesome characters and their different personalities. The family dynamic of the show makes it relatable to all families even though they are a bunch of superheroes.
The family has a huge love / hate with their father which makes the show full emotion. He was a secretive man, never showing them much affection. Hargreaves had a lot of secrets that the family slowly begins to uncover as the show progress. This made me addicted to watching the show until I could figure out all the lies and dirt.
The show has quite a big cast, the character Vonya is played by Ellen Page who also starred in Juno and X-Men. Also, the role of Klaus is played by Robert Sheehan who was in the movie Immortal Instruments.
I would honestly say there were no negative to this show except for some unanswered questions. Although this is not a bad thing for it leaves room for a great second season. I would give this Netflix Original a 10/10 rating. The whole show was suspenseful and had a great story line. I watched the whole thing in just 2 days because I had to figure out what happened all the way through. Each of The Umbrella Academy members is so unique and it makes you almost wish you could be apart of their family.
I would highly recommend this show to anyone looking for something good and entertaining to watch. You will most definitely not be disappointed. Netflix has yet to release the date for a second season but there have been rumors that one will soon be in the making due to the huge success of the first season.
