The AP art students paint a beautiful mural at City Barbeque
AP Art students, Grayson McMaster, Emma Duckham, Raye Palko, Sophia Roberto and Tuuli Pirinen, and art teacher, Sean Berrodin, were invited on January 12th to do a mural for the opening of City Barbeque in Beachwood.
Berrodin explained, “Nikki Hurlbut a graduate of Aurora High School and it's Art Program, approached me with an opportunity for my students. Nikki is the Local Store Marketer for City Barbeque who was involved in the opening of a new City Barbeque in Beachwood. She remembered my involvement in murals and saw an opportunity for my students to be part of a hands on, practical experience.”
Senior Emma Duckham continued, “They gave us their vision and then Mr.B sketched out a design which we helped with to present to them.”
The artists sketched out their design at the restaurant and spent about 14 hours painting from 7 am to around 9 pm with occasional breaks. They spent a long time standing up on ladders and leaning over to finish the mural.
“It was frustrating at times and all of us were exhausted, but we acted professionally,” said Senior Grayson McMaster.
As the AP art students prepare to do a mural for the high school during internship, it acted as a good learning experience for their future work.
Berrodin explained, “The students gained a great experience in the process of making artwork for a company and to have their work seen and appreciated by their community.”
Ultimately, it was a great project for the class with great results. The restaurant provided them with a big dinner and some gift cards for their job well done. The art can be found at 24325 Chagrin Boulevard, City Barbeque Beachwood where authentic barbeque is sold. The class encourages people to go see their work and get some good food!
