Hockey team has a great season, but comes to an end soon
It feels just like yesterday the winter season just started. All the sporting events throughout this winter season has been fun, but just like all good things, they must come to an end at some time. Hockey in particular has had a great season so far this year. This 16-10 team has done a phenomenal job and has gone 9-5 in their conference this year.
Seniors, Jack Pfiffner, Jordan Smith, Alec Houston, and Evan Dockman have done a great job showing leadership throughout the season and hope to continue it through the state tournament which starts February 12 against Twinsburg. This year has been an interesting year for the team so far, struggling with consistency has been a problem throughout the season.
“Next year we will look to be more consistent because this year we had a lot of ups and downs,” said by Junior Left Wing, Jack McElwee
However, the hockey team is quite different than many teams in the school, even in the state. The hockey team does not have any cuts or have tryouts, so anyone who wants to learn how to play can. They are really open and encouraging for the new players. Some years they even sometimes struggle to get enough players to play.
“They [new players] supports the team a lot and when they get a chance to play it’s awesome to see because they get really excited,” said Senior Jack Pfiffner about the new players on the team.
The hockey team has been playing different than they have been playing in the past. They did a good job of passing the puck around and not trying to do it selfishly, as they would a lot of time in previous seasons. The team just played in the Baron Cup Tournament which was their main goal this year, but lost in the semi-finals to Parma.
“I always tell the guys work hard, follow our game plan and most importantly have fun. It’s really about the experience and just to enjoy with each other” said by head coach John Sheridan
The hockey team has had a very special season this year, as the seniors and the rest of team hope to work together to keep the season going through the OHSAA playoffs. This year’s group boys hope to make a mark on the hockey program and put their program on the map.
