NHS hosts 5th annual princess prom
Aurora’s National Honor Society hosted their fifth annual Princess Prom for the elementary schools. This event consisted of a typical daddy-daughter dance where little girls grades kindergarten to fifth grade and their dads or guardians come to dance. The dance included a photographer, face paint, photo booth, and plenty of snacks and desserts for the girls.
The dance also included a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in which the little girls got their hair and nails done for a small fee before the dance, while watching Disney princess movies. The dance could not have been put on without the help of NHS volunteers and other high schoolers, dressing as princesses and princes, pampering the girls, and making sure the dance runs smoothly.
Senior, and Cinderella character, Maddy Wolkov states, “Working with the girls and making them happy is truly rewarding, and something I love to do.”
NHS hosts the dance in order to gain money for future college scholarships. The money made from the boutique, the dance, and sponsors help NHS members ease into the price of secondary education.
The sponsors include the presenting sponsor, Allstate Integrity insurance, the gold princess sponsor, Elevation dance studio, silver prince sponsors, Trilogy Salon, Portage County League of Women Voters, Aurora Rose Dance Company, and Aurora Parks and Rec, Lastly, the fairy godmother sponsors, Huffman-Calcei Dentistry, Mazullo's, Dunked and Drizzled, Angelos, Gioninos, and Sweet & Simple Cookies by Anne Marie.
Senior, and Princess Prom committee leader, Nicole Doemling states, “Seeing the girls running around and enjoying the dance makes all the hard work and hours worth it.” The royal event was held on Saturday, February 2 from 7:00-10:00 with the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique held from 1:00-4:00 and was a big success.
The girls loved every second of the dance, running around with their friends, and enjoying the sweet treats that were provided for them. Princess prom is a tradition that is well-loved in the Aurora community and always brings a smile to the little girls’ faces.
