Wrestlers prepare for State Duals
The Aurora Greenmen Wrestling Team is practicing hard this week as they begin to prepare for what they have been working for all season and that is February 2nd. This upcoming Saturday your very own wrestlers are taking on the State Regional Tournament in hopes of punching their ticket to Columbus.
There will be three divisions of tournament competition for the OHSAA Team Wrestling Tournament. Schools are assigned to divisions based on male enrollment in grades 9-11 and the number of teams participating in the 2018-19 OHSAA Wrestling Team Tournament.
Each division will be divided into eight regions geographically. The eight regions will be divided into two subdivisions (A & B). Schools will be assigned to a subdivision geographically.
The Aurora Greenmen will be wrestling this weekend in Division 2 Region 11 at Perry High school. Weigh-ins will be starting at 8:00 AM for all teams based on match order, and the event will be starting promptly at 9:00 AM.
The varsity wrestling team is the top seed in Region 11. The Greenmen will have to win 4 dual meets in order to qualify for a spot at St. John arena in Columbus, Ohio for Division 2 dual team title.
Where do our Greenmen stand right now? Aurora wrestlers are coming off of the Alliance Top Gun tournament, where the Greenmen placed first as a team on Saturday the 19th. Along with wrestling in the Wadsworth G.I.T tournament on the 26th, where they placed 4th. Needless to say, the wrestling team is looking good going into this weekend.
As for other exciting events for the Aurora Greenmen, the extremely talented seniors will be wrestling for the last time here in our varsity gym on Thursday, January 31st. Senior night wrestling will begin at 6:00. All eight seniors will be honored expressing their achievements and future plans. Come out and support your wrestlers as they wrestle on home turf for the last time in their high school careers.
All and all, as expected the Aurora Greenmen Wrestling Team is bringing nothing but great success to the program. As the season is starting to approach the finish line, the hard work of the Greenmen is only improving. An extremely important couple of weeks will be approaching the Wrestling team so I highly suggest coming out to show your support. I can promise you the wrestlers will make it worth the trip.
