"Bandersnatch" will snatch your attention
Back in October of 2018, Netflix leaked its plan for a partnership with the popular series, Black Mirror. The plan for a choose-your-own-adventure story excited viewers for the future. December 28th brought the movie, Bandersnatch, along with tons of positive attention.
Black Mirror is a four season Netflix original show which has been highly rated. The British series is based off the ideas of The Twilight Zone, with more of a contemporary spin. Each story is its own feature with a science fiction feel, rooted in its own existential theme.
The new release through Netflix has become a hit with its thought provoking storyline each person can make for themselves based on their choices. The movie has eight different main storylines, and many different “easter eggs” which keeps the viewer playing it over and over again. Although there were no “happy” endings, each ending was interesting and made the viewer think about each choice they made to get that ending.
In an article on PCGamer, the creator of Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker, said, “Some people expect to just get one ending and that’s the end of it. But it’s deliberately designed so that you should probably sample two or three.”
The movie is based in the 1980s and follows a teenager named Stephen who’s trying to create a game. The actor behind this character, Fionn Whitehead (also well known for his role in Dunkirk), did an excellent job portraying the emotions and feelings of Stephen in tons of different situations.
Other actors included the popular Will Poulter (The Maze Runner, We’re the Millers, The Chronicles of Narnia), Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty, Watership Down), and Alice Lowe (Prevenge, Solis). Overall, I thought all the actors did a great job representing their characters and I found no big issues with the acting.
The movie is rated MA (mature audiences) and there are some graphic scenes, so the movie isn’t for everyone. In my opinion, it did an amazing job sticking to the Black Mirror themes and was very enjoyable to play and watch. I would love to see more of these movies in the future of Netflix.
