Benefits of rec center in Aurora
Mental wellness is an important part of your overall health and can impact your physical well-being. Participating in leisure and recreation activities can help you better manage stress and reduce depression. Aurora should really consider building a recreation center for the community, not only for mental health but also the physical well being of its citizens.
Many people in the dead of winter enjoy having a place nearby they can go for working out. Many kids also like the opportunity to go swimming indoors and have a fun activity that is accessible in town. Neighboring communities like Twinsburg, Macedonia and Tallmadge all have their own rec centers for citizens to utilize and enjoy for their own personal gain.
Sarah Nemeth states, “I really like to work out during the winter but it's hard to run out doors when there is snow on the gourd. The rec center would be nice because I could use the track and lifting weights while its cold out.”
At times there are many people from Aurora that want somewhere for their kids to get physical activity. They go outside our community to these other towns and get memberships to use a good facility. This directly shows why Aurora should get its own. Adults can go and workout while their kids swim in the pool or climb a rock wall, which would obviously be supervised by lifeguards and staff members.
A rec center would promote overall health and be something a majority of the community would utilize. In Aurora there is currently only one gym: Snap Fitness. This is a great facility but it is very small and doesn't have much other than weight lifting. There are no recreational objects or facilities like a track or basketball courts for the public to use.
Senior Julia Brezovec states, “I myself love working out. I lift frequently and enjoy swimming in my free time. So I think myself and all of Aurora would really benefit from a rec center, a lot would put it into use.”
Recently I sent out a survey to all of the students in Aurora High School asking if they would agree to a rec center or not. An outstanding 109 of the students reported “yes” and only 7 responded “no”. This margin has a huge difference and goes to show how many people would agree to building a rec center.
Senior Sarah Nemeth states, “I would love if we got a rec center. I got to the RAC in Reminderville but it's sometimes a little far to just go on the spot. I would like for there to be something here in town that is easy to get to.”
Not only will the rec center help the community but also the school’s sports teams. Currently the swim team goes all the way to Hiram for meets and practice which takes time away from studies. If Aurora installs a rec center the swim team will be able to use the pool for practices and not have to drive as far. The track team would also get to use the track at the rec center. During the winter when there is snow on the ground the track athletes will still be able to train in preparation for upcoming seasons.
Brezovec states, “I am on the swim team and can say a rec center would be very nice. Driving all the way to Hiram is just out of the way and it would be nice to have something right in Aurora.”
Overall, a recreation center has obviously more pros than cons. The community will be able to have a location for staying fit and having opportunity for leisure time to themselves.
