New Euchre club picks up popularity at AHS
As the school year continues, Aurora’s new Euchre club is soaring in popularity. As Senior, Jacob French states, “It started when Doc and I got into an argument over who the better card player was and before we knew it, it turned into a club!”
Now, all students are joining in on the club. Meeting every other Thursday from 2:30-4:00 Euchre club is for everyone, from people who feel they have mastered the game, to people who haven’t come to a single meeting.
Euchre is an easy, fun and social card game. To play, you need at least 4 people, for two teams of two. Each player receives five cards and you lay down one card at a time, the player who lays down the highest card in the suit of the first card played wins the trick. The objective is to win the most amount of tricks up to a certain total point where you win.
What many people don’t know about Euchre club is the amount of good food brought in every other Thursday. Club administrator, Doc Munson, is a particular fan of the food stating, “We come, play cards, and eat delicious desserts.” No matter your skill set in card games, everyone likes desserts.
In a couple months, Euchre club will also be creating a tournament like a March Madness basketball, but with Euchre. Making a tournament of teams, and seeing who will reign as champion.
Junior, Grace Caffoe states, “Euchre club is a great way to socialize with people that you might not normally talk to while playing a fun card game. Even if you have never played euchre before, everyone is so helpful with teaching and you quickly pick up the main point of the game. Plus there’s always food!”
Overall, Euchre club is a fun way to get involved in the school’s community, and a good way to learn a card game you can use for years to come. No matter if you are an expert or beginner Euchre club is an entertaining way to spend your time and meet new people you haven't met before. As popularity rises, the love of Euchre and dessert in Aurora continues to grow.
