Room traps viewer's emotions
In the film Room, Brie Larson stars as Ma, a woman who has been kidnapped by a stranger and held captive for over 7 years. She is held in a small shed in the middle of nowhere with her 5 year old son, Jack. On Jack’s 5th birthday, Ma tries to plan an escape with giving Jack the opportunity to see the outside world. When Ma and Jack finally do get outside of the Room, Ma faces many challenges with seeing her family and friends for the first time after being kidnapped.
The largest challenge is helping Jack face the real world for the first time. All Jack knows is the room. He has never seen grass or trees or even leaves. This is one of the major challenges that Ma needs to face, among many others.
This is a heart wrenching movie about a mother trying to protect her son from the dangers of the world. Room is not a true story, but it is based off the true events of the Elizabeth Fritzl case. Fritzl was taken and held captive by her father, Josef, in their own basement. Over the years Josef fathered several of Elizabeth’s children and threw them into the dungeon with Elizabeth.
This film started as a novel written by Emma Donoghue. Room also has many big stars like Brie Larson. Larson has starred in many popular movies like 21 Jump Street and 13 Going on 30. It also stars WIlliam H. Macy who appears as the main character in the extremely popular show Shameless.
I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys watching dramas with a little thriller mixed in. This movie should probably not be watched by anyone under the age of 13, due to cruel language and uncomfortable themes.
