Interact makes a difference

Aurora High’s Interact Club has been up to a lot recently.

Interact Club is a volunteer organization sponsored by the Rotary Club of Aurora. Club members participate in service events throughout the year, some organized by the club’s own members.

One of the major events Interact students recently participated in was helping build a house with Habitat for Humanity. Members met in Ravenna October 13th to assist in building a house for a family who hopes to move to the house in January.

Students worked alongside adult members of Aurora’s Rotary Club and the family who hopes to move in to the house.

Senior Aaron Giganti, who helped build said, “I think it would be a great experience for anyone in the school to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity...it's one of the most rewarding feelings to be able to see people getting to a better place in their lives, in some part because of the help you've done!”

Another major project completed by members of Interact was making lunches for people at 2100 Lakeside Men’s Shelter in Cleveland. Members stayed after school October 25th to make lunches of peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, carrots, and a granola bar. Over 50 bags were able to be sent to those at the shelter.

“It was fun! Since there were a lot of students helping out, it went by fast. All the bags got filled in under 30 minutes,” said Junior Jane Puzder.

According to club advisor Melissa Foster, so far this year the club has also helped at the Believe in Dreams 5K, Aurora Fall Festival, and bingo nights at the Metzenbaum Center. Some upcoming activities for the club are Rake and Run on November 10th, whe

re students will travel around Aurora raking yards, and ringing bells with the Salvation Army during November and December.

Interact Club is always looking for new members to join and help out in the community.

Interact President Elizabeth Miller said, “If people want to join Interact all they have to do is join our google classroom with the code ms3i2k, sign up for a few events, pay the $5 dues, and come to a few meeting. Our meetings are every other Thursday.”
