Nostalgia Critic masters reviews with a comedic twist

As an enthusiast of movie and tv-show reviews and reviewers, I tend to dedicate a chunk of my free time to watching critic channels on YouTube. My favorites include RebelTaxi, Saberspark, AniMat, Pieguyrulz, TheMysteriousMrEnter, and CellSpex. A lot of critic YouTubers come to mind when I think of an iconic critic, but no other critic has ever influenced me the way Nostalgia Critic has in my lifetime.

Starring Doug Walker, Malcolm Ray, and Tamara Chambers, Nostalgia Critic is an American review comedy series with 400 episodes and counting. The series started in 2007, which, before Channel Awesome took ownership in 2014, was under Doug’s person website, That Guy with the Glasses.

Doug’s most notable works consist of him reviewing movies such as Foodfight!, The Room, Batman and Robin, and Rapsittie Street Kids, which have all been panned by audiences and critics alike. He tends to review movies and shows he deems as good, but a lot of his fame comes from bashing already-hated films.

Despite each episode’s lengthy runtime, Doug, Malcolm, and Tamara are able to pack a punch from start to finish. They do not just stare at a screen and react once a minute like many other so-called “critics” do. On top of their funny reactions, they perform sketches that relate to the film. The cast members often play fictionalized versions of their authentic counterparts.

Every moment is perfect from Doug’s opening line: “Hello! I’m the Nostalgia Critic. I remember it so you don’t have to!” to the ending, which usually plays the audio from a memorable part of the movie (at least in the older episodes).

The online show has become such a phenomenon in the review community that many of their sketches and lines have become popular memes.

Nostalgia Critic might not be suitable for all audiences due to its use of surreal and dark humor. Regardless, it is bound to make many people laugh out of their seats. I recommend this YouTube channel to anyone who loves comedies, parodies, and/or reviews of movies and shows.
