Radis takes a swing at districts
As fall sports begin to come to an end, and playoffs and postseason are fast approaching. Sophomore, Luke Radis, has been preparing this moment since middle school. Even though Radis is an underclassmen, it does not stop him from competing against some of the best in the area, some juniors and seniors. Radis has been fortunate enough to be able to compete in the Ohio High School Athletic Association, also known as the OHSAA, golf districts. Nothing seems to stop this sophomore from playing at and against the highest level and greatest competitors, but what really got Radis into the sport was the family aspect.
“My brother played so I kind of went into it because I got to see him play,” states Radis.
Radis began playing golf in seventh grade, with the help of friends, family and coaches his game has developed tremendously. Varsity golf coach, David (Doc) Munson, has had the pleasure of teaching and coaching Radis this and last year and Munson has not been disappointed.
“He was a leader on our team this season as our number one golfer. Luke is dedicated to improving his game. I am looking forward to the next two years of golf at AHS for Luke,” explains Munson about Radis.
Radis’s trip to districts this past season has taught him many lessons, nothing he had ever experienced or expected. However, Radis being only a sophomore gives him much to prepare for next year. Radis’s love for the game keeps him from putting his head down as he desires to get better and better.
“I could’ve played a better round at districts. It was a very different atmosphere that I was not very prepared for,” says Radis.
However, during the fall is not the only time works on his golf game. Radis is committed to working on his game in the summer time as well, which is a main reason why his game is so strong during the fall. As many say, practice makes perfect and it sure has benefitted Luke Radis.
“He plays in summer tournaments to prepare for the competition in the high school season. He also works at improving his game by practicing and playing on his own. He works diligently on his short game, especially his putting,” Munson states about Radis.
Golf has been an influential sport for Luke Radis since seventh grade and will continue to keep him focused for the next two years. Being a great golfer is very important to him and may be apart of his life after his time at AHS. Nothing seems to stop this sophomore from being the best he can be. AHS is fortunate is to have Radis apart their phenomenal program.
