Greenmen Cafe searches for volunteers to contribute to their most successful year yet
Why do the Aurora High School hallways smell like cinnamon rolls Friday mornings? The answer lies within the Greenmen Cafe, which is open every Friday 2nd to 3rd period. The menu offers things such as hash browns, egg and cheese sandwiches, and, yes, cinnamon rolls. The Greenmen Cafe’s previous opening hours were between 1st and 2nd period, but changed due to scheduling of needed classes for students and teachers.
“This has been our most successful year yet! Students are lined up down the hallway!” says Mrs. Heiman, the advisor of the Greenmen Cafe
Students tend to feel drained on Fridays, longing for the weekend to begin. The Greenmen Cafe not only has great food but also has a great atmosphere, making it a win-win for both the cafe workers and the students who visit the cafe.
Working at the Greenmen Cafe teaches cafe workers significant skills such as shopping, cooking, banking, and communication skills. It also provides a service to students who support the Greenmen Cafe. The profits made go directly towards field trips to buy needed items for the classroom.
About 120 cinnamon rolls, 96 egg sandwiches, 3 dozen muffins, 20 bags of trail mix, and 30 hashbrowns are sold every Friday. Just in time for the holidays, hot apple cider will be added to the menu starting October 19th. The Greenmen Cafe is open to any suggestions for new menu items.
A successful cafe comes with a lot of hard work from cafe workers. With the increasing supply and demand of foods, more people will be needed to help around the cafe.
“We can always use extra help. If there are any students that would like to volunteer their time during a study hall 2nd or 3rd period,” said Heiman.
To those who want to help our school, volunteering as a cafe worker for the Greenmen Cafe is a great option.
In conclusion, the Greenmen Cafe offers great foods for students and services for cafe workers and volunteers. Whether you want to take a bite of a cinnamon roll or just want a breath of fresh air, the Greenmen Cafe will always be there for you Friday mornings.
