The Good Doctor demonstrates a new kind of thinking and operating

Medical soap opera shows, like “The Good Doctor”, have been around before most students have been around. However, in my interest in these kind of shows I have come across that this series is a little different than most we are familiar with. A new ABC series, The Good Doctor, has become a popular show and that I believe other people should aware that this show out there because of its overall message that anything is possible and to not believe people who say you cannot something that you dream of doing.

Like I had said before, “The Good Doctor” is about a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome (a condition in which someone with significant mental disabilities demonstrates certain abilities far better than a typical peer). Character Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) moves to San Jose, California, to join a prestigious local hospital's surgical unit. Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, his only advocate, the president of the hospital and long time friend, challenged the skepticism and prejudices of the hospital's board and staff by bringing him in to join the team. The young man’s world begins to expand as he continues to work harder than he ever has before, navigating his new environment and relationships to prove to his colleagues that his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives. Shaun Murphy, has gone through many struggles throughout his life which has led him to where he is today. Such as an abusive father or his younger brother, who took care of him most of his youth, dying right in front of his eyes.

In episode one, the father throws Shaun’s rabbit against the wall, causing Shaun and his younger brother to move out and live on their own in an abandoned bus as children. The boys scavenging for food and clothing on a daily basis. Shaun had to work from the ground and up and still managed to be successful and do not forget that he has autism, which is why this show is show extraordinary and unique to me.

The show demonstrates compassion, love and hardwork people have to do and fight for in order to be the best of the best. What makes this show stand out to me more is that almost everyone is fighting for something or struggling to achieve a goal. Each episode is about 40 minutes so it is not too long. Also, the show is available on regular television and Hulu, so it easily accessible. However, there are some things about “The Good Doctor”. For example, if you do not like the sight of blood and out of the body organs, this show would be for you. Another weakness of the show is features lots of language that only real doctors would understand, so at some points it is hard to comprehend.

I believe should take their time and start watching show because of its great message. “The Good Doctor” is unique and different than most medical dramas. I highly recommend this show for mature teenagers and young adults because of the content and mature language. “The Good Doctor” has been on the rise and will continue if they continuing making seasons like they have now.

“The Good Doctor” is produced by Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios, in association with production companies Shore Z Productions, 3AD, and Entermedia. David Shore serves as showrunner and Daniel Dae Kim is an executive producer for the show.
