Drug Free Club continues to grow among AHS students

The administration has found a positive way to promote a drug free lifestyle that is optional to any student at AHS. This is all through Drug Free Club.

Drug Free Club meets every other Friday after school. They discuss ways to stay drug free, promote the negative effects drugs have, and how to reduce drug use.

The advisors for Drug Free Club are Stephanie Duncan and Melissa Foster. if you wanted to receive all of the potential benefits. However, if you would still like to join you go email Duncan to see what options are available as all students are accepted!

“I am most excited to see how large the club can grow! So far our numbers are solid and more and more kids are signing up every day!” said Duncan.

Only Great Lakes Biomedical and your parents find out about failed tests. Great Lakes Biomedical will send a letter to your house and only with written consent from your parents will any other party find out.

“The Drug Free Club Program is designed to assist students in making healthy lifestyle choices. The impetus is that students join for the right reason, and to be leaders and ambassadors in their school and community” stated Foster.

Once in Drug Free Club, students receive a Pride Card and are eligible for giveaways all throughout the school year. At the end of the year, all members will the Pride Card will be entered in a drawing to win a two-year lease of a Chevy Equinox courtesy of Ganley Chevrolet of Aurora.

Lastly, for seniors, there will be exclusive scholarships only available to Drug Free Club members at the end of the year. This is a major incentive as these will help individuals get through college with less debt.

All that is required to join Drug Free Club is a signed form (which you can get from Mrs. Duncan) and ten dollars which covers all costs.

“We believe that Drug Free Club is here to stay for a long time at AHS and we hope that students recognize the benefits of this opportunity!” stated Duncan.

During the 2017-2018 school year, much drama surrounded the potential mandatory drug testing policy that was being proposed through a committee composed of administrators, staff, parents, and hand-selected students. In the end, the policy did not pass due to a large amount of displeasure within the community.
