National Honors Society provides service to others
I am sure many of you have heard National Honors Society mentioned once or twice. Yet, how many of you actually know what it is? National Honors Society is seen as a very well respected club by adults, students and many universities.
One of four officers leaders, Graham Aldredge, explains, “ It is a student organization that is dedicated to service for others and our community.”
National Honors Society consists of 4 committee leaders, 2 advisors, and 58 members.
All of which, are committed to serving their community through the 4 pillars of NHS. Leadership, character, service and scholarship. Thus, one can expect to find these qualities in every single member of NHS. Some may wonder however, how do the members show such qualities throughout the duration of the club?
There are many ways members of NHS can get involved within the club and their own community. NHS has held food drives, bake sales, school wide fundraisers and many more events that allow its members to give back to others, after all that is a foundation for NHS.
Officer Wendy Kristell explains some upcoming events NHS is trying to put forth, “ We are currently planning a TEDxAurora Event that will take place at our school in December. We are also planning our annual Powder Puff game. A “Bus Buddies” program with students from Miller Elementary School and an audio reading program for Leighton students.”
Do any of these events interest you? Does this club sound like something you could be a part of? If the answer to these questions are yes, then it’s time to buckle down. National Honors Society requires service hours, good grades and teacher recommendations. However, all members will pledge to how worth it the hard work is.
Officer Sanjana Duvvuri passionately states, “ I am really passionate about service and I wanted an outlet to lead and be involved in our high school and community.”
Such a statement profoundly shows the hard work is worth the rewards. However, rewards do not come without many great people setting goals for each other. National Honors Society allows for individuals as well as a group to set goals and work towards achieving them together.
NHS treasurer Wendy Kristell puts it best, “I hope that as an organization, NHS is able to positively influence the community and promote student service while providing all of its members the opportunity to improve their leadership and organization skills”.
National Honors society is a group of students that have pledged to serve their community to the best of their ability. To conclude a quote to consider from Kasie Burroughs an advisor of NHS to the character of its members, “ I am amazed by the responsibility and care that our students show. It is a pleasure to work with them and see how they can make a difference in the lives of others”.
