Interact Club creates change

Interact Club is making a difference in the Aurora High School community. Headed by teachers Mary Pat Pavicic and Melissa Foster, “Interact Club is an International Service Club for young people ages twelve to eighteen sponsored by individual Rotary Clubs, but self-governing and self-supporting.”

Interact Club takes service to a whole new world, completing at least two community service projects, “One of which furthers international understanding and goodwill.” Through these projects interactors create new relationships and friendships all around the world, while learning the importance of “developing leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others, and understanding the value of individual responsibility and hardwork.”

Interact Club goes outside of our small community, with a goal of “encouraging and fostering the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of youth united in the ideal of service.”

Creating relationships world wide, interact makes a difference throughout the world, working with other Interact Clubs and organizing a variety of projects and activities that depend primarily on the interests of Club members. “Together, these efforts ensure a balanced club program and provide important experience and opportunities for each Interactor’s personal development.”

These students, along with other members are reaping the benefits of volunteerism. Foster states, “Students are also feeling the benefits of mental and physical health. Volunteering helps counteract the effects of stress, anger, and anxiety. The social contact aspect of helping and working with others has a profound effect on your overall psychological well being.”

President of Interact club, Elizabeth Miller states her favorite volunteer activities include, “helping at after prom at a camp for teens with down syndrome, sorting cans at Aurora’s yearly food pantry collection, and Rake and Run.” She also states, “Our goal really is to help people and better the community in any way we can.” Interact club can be a great way to be involved and active in the community.

Interact Club meets every other Thursday at 2:30 in room 110. If you want to become involved in world wide volunteerism and local community work, come to a meeting, or join the Google Classroom(ms3i2k), to sign up for volunteer opportunities.
