Ferrante's journey to Africa
Junior Maria Ferrante had the pleasure of going on an eye opening trip to Africa over the summer. Ferrante traveled to Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia for vacation and to bring her step mom back to visit what was once her home for a short period of time.
“My step mom used to be in the Peace Corp and lived in Namibia for two year. We went to revisit her homestead and reunited with all of her old friends. We also had the opportunity to visit the school she used to work at.”
Along with the neat experience of learning about her step mom’s past and being able to see what the Peace Corp entails she was able to take a lot more away from the trip. She had the opportunity to learn about the culture and the way of life in Africa and how it differs from ours.
“I learned that people live very simply there. They live off their land and the communities are tight. Everyone knows everyone. It’s kind of amazing when you think about it.”
She was astonished by the close knit communities and how simple their way of life is. This was Ferrante’s first time traveling to Africa and in the short amount of time she spent there she was able to take away so much from the journey.
Ferrante was able to experience the beauty of the land as well as the people. Once she got to the vacation portion of the trip she went on many adventures. Her favorite memories are from the time she spent in Botswana.
“While we were in Botswana we stayed on the Okavango delta and did game drives. We saw a lot of natural wildlife and ate dinner under the stars.”
Ferrante took the beauty of the land, people, and animals to heart which made it an amazing and eye opening journey.
