Aquaman Aims to Make a Splash

Theaters are sure to have every seat filled on opening night of this action packed, under water, superhero blockbuster. Son of the Queen of Atlantis and a lighthouse keeper, Arthur Curry (Aquaman), played by Game of Thrones Jason Momoa, learns that he is the rightful heir to the Throne of Atlantis and needs to take his place as ruler. Torn between the two worlds he must struggle to find his place in all of the madness and fight for the throne to prevent a war between sea and surface. Aquaman hits theaters December 21st, 2018.

The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) has a track record of producing team up movies such as Batman V. Superman and Justice League that are to the dislike of fans, but their solo films such as Man of Steel and Wonder Woman have received praise from fans and critics alike so fans are hoping Aquaman will keep that streak. As the movie takes place completely underwater for a vast majority of its runtime, green screens have to be used. Without real surroundings it may be hard for the actors and actresses to get a real sense of their spacing. The visual effects may also be a problem but from trailers they look breathtaking.

Momoa’s Aquaman has been a high point for Warner Bros. DCEU. He brings about a new energy and life to the character who has been the focal point of jokes for almost 80 years since his debut in More Fun Comics #73 in November 1941. In a universe scrutinized for being too dark within its movies, Aquaman has been praised for his light, yet serious demeanor, his performance steals the spotlight of every scene he’s in. Its superstar cast includes Jason Momoa, Amber Heard (Never Back Down), Patrick Wilson (Watchmen), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Baywatch), Willem Dafoe, and Nicole Kidman.

This underwater, action packed thriller is for the comic book movie fanatic and the casual moviegoer alike. It will no doubt have easter eggs connecting to the larger DC Universe that the hardcore fans will appreciate but won’t confuse the ones just looking for nightly entertainment. But all in all this movie will no doubt be able to fill the theaters.

Based on crowd response from Jason Momoa in Justice League, Aquaman is going to definitely draw a crowd. The movie will for sure be worth seeing, between its all star cast and its compelling action and story. Aquaman will be the blockbuster of the winter you don’t want to miss.
