Rick and Morty brings laughs to TV

Know anyone that needs a laugh? I know the perfect place where you can find one and it happens to be in a Cartoon Network Adult Swim series. It is called Rick and Morty. The show has been on the rise since its outing, and will continue to rise if people with a sense of humor pass it on to others. However this show includes vulgar language and inappropriate scenes, so this show is highly recommended for mature teenagers and adults.

I have had the privilege of watching Rick and Morty myself and the show constantly makes me smile and laugh. Rick and Morty, an animated science fiction sitcom. One may ask what the adult swim version of cartoon network is. Adult swim is the teen/adult-oriented nighttime programming service that airs. There are currently three seasons of the series and is planning on coming out with more seasons. The show is about a scientist named Rick who has not seen his daughter and decides to go and move in with her and her family after 20 years. Later, using their garage as a personal laboratory, creating many possibly dangerous gadgets. Rick creates a bond with his grandson, Morty, and takes him on many adventures dragging Morty, his sister Summer, and their father Jerry through all his troubles.

My favorite episode of the show is Rick gives the family the Meeseeks Box, a gadget capable of immediately summoning helpers named Mr. Meeseeks. These creatures exist only to solve the task at hand. Once their task is solved, the creatures instantly disappear from existence. Unfortunately, Jerry creates a problem that the meeseeks cannot solve and they end creating thousands of meeseeks in order to solve it, but it ends in the meeseeks turning violent on the family. The meeseeks then terrorize the town trying to solve this problem so they can disappear. While this is going on Rick goes on an adventure with Morty, trying to convince Morty to keep being his sidekick.

Rick could be defined as sociopath and does not care about anyone but himself, although he does have moments where he cares about his family. Rick’s science skills are unbelievably good and he creates gadgets that help the entire universe, however he is an alcoholic which affects his science and those around him, including his family. Morty, Rick’s sidekick, one could say is not that bright and a pushover. Most of the time, Morty listens to his grandfather no matter what he asks and no matter what the consequences. Jerry, Morty and Summer’s father, despises his wife’s father, and will do anything for his wife to kick him out, but Jerry too ends up in Rick’s adventures.

As I have said before this show can make almost anyone laugh. The biggest reason I think this show is so great is because of how funny it is. If one is feeling sad, Rick and Morty can definitely make them feel better, which is why I believe it is such a great show. Also, viewers can start at any one episode and are able to follow through the episode. It is not like a show where a viewer would have to start at season 1 episode 1 to understand the show. One could start at any episode and could completely understand the show. Another strength of the show is how it is 20 minutes per episode, so the episodes do not lag on and could fit an episode in if one a bit of free time. Unfortunately, like I said previously, this show is NOT kid friendly and does not have a filter or barriers. It will speak of and about unfitting subjects for an animated show. So I do not advise showing this to a parent or a young sibling.

The show was created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, but the writers are Ryan Ridley and Dan Guterman. Roiland and Harmon sometimes do the voices of minor characters in certain episodes. Dan Harmon is known for writing and producing earlier works such as Computerman and Laser Fart. Ryan Ridley and Dan Guterman have also wrote for movies and shows like The Colbert Report, Community, The Wastelander and Our Footloose Remake.

This show is not a waste of time and I completely believe it is worth every minute of watching it. It is always nice to have a good laugh. I think we can all agree laughing till your stomach hurts is one of the best feelings in the world, after your stomach stops hurting of course. Rick and Morty can provide that kind of laugh viewers may need to perk up their day if they are having a bad one. The show can be found on Hulu or regular TV. Also, if one just needs a new show to watch on Hulu or TV this is a great choice to consider, maybe even the best.
