A Future Film Director?
Noah White is a senior at Aurora High School. He has a passion and love for movies, specifically, he loves to express himself in creative ways. White said, “My passion is the ability to express what is within your soul without verbalizing it.” One of his favorite ways to express his feelings is visual communication. He believes that is the power of film, “The power of film is not telling a story rather it is presenting information to an observer by its nature. It is a visual communication.” White prefers to show rather than tell a story. He uses imagery and other creative ways to have the observer understand the story. “I use the analogy that if you tell someone about a roller coaster, that's great but they're not going to understand what it felt like to be on the rollercoaster. You can say an idea out loud, but that won't make the person you're communicating with fundamentally UNDERSTAND that idea.” White’s passion is to be a visual storyteller of Film Directing. “To be able to make people understand things at an ideological level, beyond the simplistic spoken level. Therefore, the visual storytelling of Film Directing is my passion.” White said. His talent and passion for storytelling has been around for all of his life. “I've been writing stories pretty much since the moment I first picked up a pencil. I've been completely self taught as a writer, learning from the hands-on/trial-and-error experience of doing it and from around 16 years of doing it.” He’s also been making short films throughout his childhood. White says, “I've been making amateur short films since I was about 5 years old.” By making these films, he’s been learning more on how to make a successful film. White says, “Each short film I made, I think about WHY they didn't work, therefore, I have learned significant techniques about doing the craft. This may sound like very simplistic training, but filmmakers like Christopher Nolan and JJ Abrams and SEVERAL others learned to make films this way.” After high school, White plans to begin a career of independent film production. White says, “This period of my life will allow me to create a real portfolio. Depending on the merit of its quality is how soon I can go from directing small budget independent films to more modest budget professional productions.” White has planned many steps ahead for his future career and his future is absolutely promising. His main reason for going to film school is to have better access to the quality of tools necessary to build a portfolio that is above average. Whites says, “It also will allow me to hopefully create a network of individuals I can rely on in the long run to help me create quality films, such as great designers and customers and cinematographers etc. It is important to establish a reliable team early on in a director's career, so he's not scrambling to find a new group of people every production.” In conclusion, Noah White never gives up on his passion and dream to be a visual director for filmmaking. He’s been teaching himself filmmaking throughout his childhood and he’ll continue to teach himself filmmaking even after high school. His journey for filmmaking has just begun.
