Tobogganing at the Chalet
This past weekend, I went tobogganing at The Chalet in one of the Cleveland Metroparks. The chutes are at 16200 Valley Parkway Strongsville, OH 44136. For an all day pass it’s $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for children under 10 and $6.00 for anyone who would like to just ride once. Children also must be at least 42 inches tall to ride.
For those who may not know, toboggan chutes are like big slides except covered in ice. To go down the chutes, people sit on long, narrow sleds that hold up two to four people. When going down the chutes, all passengers must sit with their legs on top of the person in front of them, grab the ropes with their palms facing outward and keep their elbows in to prevent scraping your hands on the cement walls.
While they chutes may be covered in ice, there is still cement exposed around the edges which can be dangerous if a person does not follow instructions. Also, there are many stairs leading up to the chutes which can get to be very tiring for some people.
Also, the sleds were wet and after going down the chutes, most of the time our sled would keep going thus causing us to go into the grass which during winter, is very muddy.
With all that being said, I did enjoy going down the chutes. It was a thrilling and unique experience. The chutes also had a monitor that would show you the speed you reached when going down the hill which was really fun to see.
The park also had a very nice building that contained a fireplace, sitting area and food. They had a wide variety of food to choose from like pan pizzas, hot dogs, mini corn dogs, fried pickles, popcorn and many more options. Not only did they have food, they also had some of the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had and they had cappuccinos that were very good as well. They had many options to choose from and the food was not over priced either. Everything ranged from about $2.00 to $5.00.
Overall, This was definitely a fun weekend activity for families looking for something to do. I feel like this would be best for families with younger children and I would not recommend going when it’s 20 degrees outside because then it may be too cold to enjoy the experience. However, this was definitely a fun weekend activity for families looking for something to do and I would definitely recommend it to others.
