Starbucks offers new flavors

Recently, Starbucks began offering a few blonde espresso drinks to introduce espresso to non-coffee drinkers. The coffee chain is now selling nine blonde espresso drinks, five hot and four cold, to fit anyone’s coffee preference.

While there are only nine base coffees, just like any Starbucks drink, you can customize it however you want. For 43 years Starbucks has claimed that coffee needs to be intense and bold, at least Starbucks coffee does, but recently they have decided to break their rules and brew a smooth and subtly sweet coffee.

Personally I love coffee, but I have a hard time drinking it without anything else in it because of the bold and almost burnt flavor of normal espresso. When I heard Starbucks was coming out with a “better tasting” espresso I was honestly excited to try it. The blonde drinks that I tried were the caffe latte, the vanilla latte, and the flat white. Apart from the vanilla latte these are drinks that I would never drink without some sort of flavor added in.

The blonde caffe latte was surprisingly good. The taste was noticeably different and less bitter than if it had regular espresso. The lighter espresso also has slightly more caffeine in it which is a plus. Like I said before, you can customize any of the blonde drinks, so the second time I ordered this drink I got it with the white chocolate mocha flavor. It is actually amazing.

Normally I don’t like flat whites; they are too bitter and just not my preference when I get coffee, but the flat white with blonde espresso was tolerably. I still didn’t like it very much but it wasn’t as bad as a normal flat white. This just confirmed to me that flat whites are not my thing.

I enjoy regular vanilla lattes, so it was no surprise to me that I really loved them with the new blonde espresso.

Overall I think the blonde espresso is a nice addition to the Starbucks line up. It is definitely worth it to try them, especially if you find it hard to like dark espresso.
