Huffman Leads Team to Successful Season
Senior point guard and team captain Cade Huffman is leading his Aurora Greenmen Men’s Basketball Team to a 3-1 record behind his average of 24 points per game. He plans to continue leading this team with the help of his two other captains to a playoff run this year.
Asked about about the starting five players, Huffman says, “Our starting five are James Robinson at center, Jack Arnold at power forward, Justin Gentile at small forward, Trevor Sobol at shooting guard, and me at point guard.”
About his teammates coming off the bench, he adds, “There are a lot of new faces this year on the varsity team but each guy in the lineup is making great strides and improvements.”
On a team with four seniors, there has been no lack of leadership throughout the season. Huffman says, “There are four seniors on the team, three of us are captains and we try to lead everyday at practice.”
With a new coach comes new routines, plays, and goals. Due to this, Huffman has noticed a change in overall effort from the players. He claims, “No matter how people are feeling that day we still come to work each and every practice which has given us an edge in the first couple of games.”
Specifically of new Head varsity coach TJ Henderson, Huffman says: “Henderson brings so much energy and enthusiasm to practice, which only makes us grow as players.” The seniors especially felt wary of a new coach for their final season, but Huffman says, “Those nerves went away as soon as the first practice rolled around. Henderson cares about our games and is doing a great job keeping us motivated. He brings a spark to our team.”
As far as college plans go for Huffman, he is still undecided. Basketball has been a huge part of his life for a long time and he hopes he will be able to pay it at the next level in college. While still undecided, he “[is] leaning toward playing at either Marietta, John Carroll, or Wooster. [He’s] waiting for the end of the season to make sure what is best for [him].”
While college plans seem to be in order, Huffman is not losing focus for his last season at Aurora High School. He concludes, “Right now I’m trying to focus on winning as many games as we can, and making a playoff run this year.
Come cheer on the Greenmen tomorrow as they travel to take on Barberton and hope to improve their record to 2-1 in the conference and 4-1 overall.
