Dodgeball Tournament tradition continues

Each year, the National Honors Society of AHS puts on a dodgeball tournament to benefit four different charities. The tournament was held on Friday, December 8.

This year’s tournament suffered from low attendance. However, that did not stop AHS from raising money for four special causes.

“We did have twelve teams participate and as a result, we were able to raise $360 for charities,” said Mrs. Burroughs, who helps head NHS and Aurora for Others.

It is typical for many teacher and alumni teams to participate, however that was not the case this year. The reason for no alumni teams is likely because the tournament was earlier than usual. Due to this, many AHS alumni were still at college.

“I wish that we could have faced some teacher or alumni teams because that added an extra element of fun in the past,” said Will Baldwin.

The four charities that benefited from the cause are NEOVETS, Prayers from Maria, Heaventrain, and Cover 2.

The winning team was Colossus of Clout consisting of seniors Bobby Dirda, Tate Larrance, Drew McVay, Montana Nietert, and Nate Smerciak. They were the only team to go undefeated throughout the duration of the tournament.

“It was fun to spend the night with so many friends while coming together for such a great cause,” stated Bobby Dirda.

The four charities were each presented with a check totaling $1,000 on December 15 at the high school’s end of the semester assembly. These donations also included those from the Coin Wars.

“I had a great time watching everyone play! I enjoyed supporting such a great cause and will definitely be back next year!” said Morgan Copley.

This year’s tournament brought much joy and laughter to AHS all while serving a great cause! Many students are already looking forward to next year’s tournament.

“I am excited to take part in such a great cause once again next year!” states Colin McNamara.

“I wish we could have won but it was still a great night overall!” said Ryan Stone.

Be on the lookout for next year’s tournament on either the second or third Friday of December! Come on out and support a great cause!
