Teacher of the Week: Catherine Massiello

Here at Aurora High School we have so many interesting and unique teachers that deserve to be in the spotlight. Ms. Massiello is just one of those many teachers.

Subjects Taught: AHS Singers Emerald Ensemble and Chamber as well as two levels of music theory, and history of rock and roll. I also advise Unaccompanied Minors.

Favorite Hobby: Outside of music include knitting, hiking with my dog, and cooking.

Sport participation: "If you mean past sport participation, i am a swammer. From age 6 to my freshman year of college I swam competitively. Because of the time commitment my major required I had to stop competing my sophomore year. I also played soccer all through high school. I played tball at one point but really only did it for the snacks. Hand eye coordination isn’t my thing."

Clubs and extracurriculars:"I was a part of drama club in school and participated regularly in school and community theater productions. In college I was student Vice President of the American Choral Directors Association, Fundraising Chair for the Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association, Service Committee Chair of the Baldwin Wallace Treble Choir, and was the conducting apprentice for the Baldwin Wallace Women’s Chorus. I graduated last May! If you were looking for more current info, I sing with a community choir and spend a lot of time at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park."

Family: My oldest sister (28) is and Audiologist and the middle sister (26) is a Physicians Assistant. Theo is my puppy who I consider part of my family rather than a pet! He is a 5 month old German Shorthaired Pointer. And Tobi is my 2 year old dog nephew

Favorite food: anything but seaweed

Favorite color: ALL OF THEM!!!

Pet/Dream pet: More dogs!

Dream career (if you weren’t a teacher):My dream career would be to own a Christmas tree farm.

Place you would like to visit some day:I want to spend some time in the Swiss Alps, but also want to take a tour of all the national parks in the US!

Favorite book/movie or song:My favorite book is Devil in the White City.

Fun fact about you:I used to be a 4H member and show goats every summer at the Geauga County Fair. That was pretty fun!
