Call of Duty: World War II returns to the basics
Call of Duty: World War II is Activision’s newest release in the infamous Call of Duty series. The game was released on November 3rd for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Microsoft Windows. In the first three days of sales, the game earned over $500M in revenue. The game was developed by Sledgehammer Games with Michael Condrey and Glen Schofield.
The game features three main components; campaign, multiplayer, and zombies. In campaign, a single-player mode, users will go through a WWII-like story in which you are assigned to various different missions. In multiplayer, players play with a team of 6 players against players from around the world. There are various different game modes to play, some killed-based and some objective-based. The most popular include team deathmatch, free-for-all, and domination. In zombies, players can choose to play individually or with a team of 1-3 other players. The goal is to kill every zombie each round.
In campaign the player follow the story of Ronald “Red” Daniels and fight along his 1st Infantry Division squad. The campaign is focused on the years of 1944 and 1945, however many events from 1940-1946 are covered to complete the story. The player gets to play to play through historic missions such as D-Day.
In multiplayer, players play as their own unique soldier. You get to pick the outfit of your soldier while progressing through the levels.
In zombies, players once again play as their own unique soldier. The process is the same.
This is the first Call of Duty in a few years in which the game is “boots on ground”. This means that the game is not set in the future therefore there is no flying, jetpacks, etc. The campaign is very well done despite the fact that Activision had to be sure they were equal to all sides of the war and did not disturb any countries. The
has received rave reviews with the only complaint being the low number of maps, only nine. Zombies is better than ever and is more intimidating than in past games.
Overall, this is one of the best Call of Duty’s in recent memory. The franchise has lost many players over the past few years but many have came back due to the return of “boots on ground”. The graphics continue to improve and are better than ever. The campaign feature real world location and stories which brings more life to the game mode. As previously stated, zombies is the best it has ever been. With all of this said, I highly recommend this game to anyone looking to play a modern yet original Call of Duty game.
