A Novel Idea is a great idea
High School students deal with stress on a regular basis. Constantly doing homework, writing essays, and studying for tests all while trying to balance athletics, work, and a social life. Sometimes students just need a place where they can relax and enjoy themselves. For avid readers A Novel Idea is just the place.
A Novel Idea is Aurora High School's book club. A place where, according to Honors 10 English teacher Melissa Lindley, “Students can share book titles that they have enjoyed with other readers and can come away with recommendations for themselves. Hopefully, it celebrates the joy of being readers.”
This club has been meeting in Lindley’s room every four to six weeks for the past three years. AP English Teacher Rose Brown commented, “Our goal is to promote reading for pleasure and for those who read to have a place to share with others.”
Also if you dread the thought of having yet another assigned book to read, don’t worry you can pick your own book and read it at your own pace. Brown said, “Since high school students are already busy with class assignments and novels, we do not choose a common text; instead, each student relates what they like - or don't like - about their current book. Some meetings have themes such as ‘best book to movie’, ‘Best series’, ‘A book that disappointed’”
Often times guest staff members attend to share some of their favorite novels or genres, “Mr. Radtke shared his favorite historical and historical fiction books and Mr. Pichola gave an overview of the fantasy genre including suggestions to those new to that type of literature,” stated Brown.
All in all if you are looking for a fun and relaxing place to discuss your favorite books and share your recommendations try checking out A Novel Idea. They will be meeting next in Lindley’s room (206) on November 15, 2017.
