It's time for the Browns to clear house...Again
The Browns are a mess. (Literally)
Hue Jackson has a 1-22 record since becoming the head coach ahead of the 2016 season. Your chief strategy officer, Paul DePodesta, is a former baseball executive who has zero experience within the game of football. Oh, your executive vice president? It doesn’t get much better. Before coming to Cleveland, he was the Chairman of the Section 8 Subcommittee to the Jacksonville Housing Authority.
The bottom line is that the current regime is simply not working out. It is time for owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam to hire a football genius to put together a quality, well-knowledged regime.
While the coaching staff is well-known, with Hue Jackson and Gregg Williams leading the team, the executives need to go. The Browns currently have the 24th ranked offense in the league. The defense has improved vastly and is currently ranked a respectable 9th.
Despite this, the team lacks the necessary skill to compete most of the year. They lack talent at many key positions and are simply outmatched on Sunday’s. The Browns have hoarded draft picks for the previous two years but have little to show for it. It also seems like they have missed multiple stars at their biggest need, quarterback.
Players such as DeShaun Watson, Carson Wentz, Derek Carr, and more have gone on to have early success in the NFL.
The Browns on the other hand have benched their rookie quarterback three weeks in a row only to go back to him the next week. Obviously, this is not what you want your rookie quarterback to be going through, but time will only tell how this affects him.
Some may say that this was stated as a long term rebuild from the start, however the front office has shown minimal improvement in two years. With the cap space and assets the team currently possesses, there is no reason for the embarrassment of a product fans have watched this year.
As previously stated, the coaching staff currently in Cleveland is one that has respect throughout the league and carries potential. However, the staff could likely use an offensive coordinator to take pressure off of head coach Hue Jackson. On the other side, the front office has fumbled their analytical attempt at creating a winner and should likely be out of Berea come January if no improvement is shown over the next nine weeks.
