Leaving our mark as seniors
Aurora High School has many creative and artistic students, but are they given the chance to truly express their abilities and interests? Recently, I attended Hudson High School to take my ACT and found myself thoroughly enjoying the art I was met with.
As soon as you walk into the building, you’re met with a variety of artwork that was created by the students. The work wasn’t anything that expressed religion or opinion, it was just fun and creative works of art.
For example, walking up the stairs there’s a painting of Sully and Mike Wazowski from Monster’s Inc. There’s also a roller coaster that’s painted along the wall going down the staircase. When I sat down to take the test, there was a pillar that was painted with a henna design that wrapped all the way around.
The art was so fun and intriguing which made me realize just how bland Aurora seems. Yes we have paintings hung up from the art classes and we currently have two trees painted on the wall, but I feel like like there should be more.
To go along with the art at Hudson, some of their ceiling tiles were painted. This brought me to wanting to do something similar at Aurora. Instead of having plain white ceiling tiles, I think it would be fun to have seniors pick a tile from one of the rooms throughout the school and paint it however they want (within reason).
The seniors could take a day out of the year to design their tile, date it and put their name on it. After placing the tiles back in the ceiling, people who visit our school will be able to admire and view what the students of Aurora are really about.
Not only would it be a fun senior activity and privilege, but it would also be a fond memory that we could, in the future, look back on. When we come back to visit our previous teachers, we can look for our tiles and reminisce about the high school memories and also admire the newer tiles made by the generations to follow.
To be able to look back and see the growth between generations and a piece by each student in the school would be an exciting and interesting experience. Newer generations can look at the previous classes and continue to add to the ceiling which will produce a fun creative environment and ultimately show the variety of personalities throughout Aurora High.
