Basketball player and aspiring sports trainer: Tylor Kee-bey

Senior Tylor Kee-bey, is well-known for her humor in the classroom and skills on the basketball court. She started playing basketball when she was in fourth grade and living in Maple Heights. Soon after that, in fifth grade she continued this sport when she moved to Aurora.

10 years later and she still continues to play basketball today. When talking to Kee-bey about her basketball career, she revealed her warm up routine.

Kee-bey said, “I always listen to my basketball playlist while I watch videos of my favorite basketball player, Kyrie Irving.”

Many athletes have their special routine that they do to help them prepare for an upcoming event and Kee-bey is one of those many. Her routine not only consists of Kyrie Irving, but also listening to music.

“Before every game I put my beats on and listen to music while I go through my dribbling routine and then finish with my shooting and 10 free throw shots.”

Listening to music is a common activity that people participate in to help calm their nerves before a game. There’s a variety of music to choose from to help you relax and get “in the zone”. When talking to Kee-bey about her routine she also includes her preferred genre of music.

“I usually listen to hip-hop and rap.”

Clearly, Kee-bey has a very specific game day routine, but she does not have any lucky charms or superstitions. Throughout her basketball career there have been many ups and downs that have inspired her.

“The best moment for me in my basketball career was when my team and I had won the suburban league for the first time in 90 years.”

This was an exciting time for Kee-bey and the rest of the basketball team.

Basketball has been such an important part of Kee-bey’s life which led to asking if this is something she wanted to continue to pursue.

“Growing up I did want to play in college, but injuries have prevented me from doing so.”

Her original plan was to continue with basketball in college, but some obstacles have led her to a different career path. While she may not be able to play basketball, she hopes to study sports medicine when she goes school and pursue it as a career.
