Greenmen Football takes on Revere in Homecoming game

The city of Aurora will be packed into Veterans Stadium on Friday when the varsity football team takes on Revere in their annual homecoming game at 7 p.m.

The game will feature normal homecoming festivities with class floats being carried around the track prior to kickoff, Homecoming Court being announced, and a special halftime performance by the band.

This is an exciting time of the year for AHS as it brings current and former students together.

Junior Taylor Burick looks forward to her third homecoming experience at AHS, “This is one of my favorite times of the year as it brings the whole school together as well as former students!”

Many alumni will be in attendance as they will come home to experience the magic of their alma mater’s homecoming celebrations once again. It is recommended to be in your seats by 6:20 if you do not want to miss any of the festivities.

The class floats will feature the theme of “The Roaring 20’s” following the ideals of “The Great Gatsby”. Each class will present their individual floats and a vote will then take place to choose which one is the best. That class will receive class points.

On the field, the Greenmen (3-4) look to continue their playoff push after a slow start. They will look to use their upset win over Highland last week to help push them through the last three weeks of regular season play.

The Minutemen of Revere (2-5) are a strong offensive team who have struggled to find an identity of defense throughout the first seven weeks of the season. They are a team who has much offensive firepower and will look to upset the Greenmen on their homecoming night for the first time in many years.

Quarterback Colin McNamara is excited for Friday’s Homecoming game, “The Homecoming game is always a great atmosphere and we can’t wait for Friday night!”

The Greenmen will likely be in their black alternate jerseys in which they only wear once or twice a season (usually on homecoming or special occasions).

The Homecoming dance will take place on Saturday, October 14 from 7:00 to 11:30 p.m.
