A review of The Young Elites

The Young Elites is part of a recently completed trilogy by Marie Lu. The same author of other popular books such as Legend, Prodigy and Champion. The story continues in The Rose Society and The Midnight Star.

The story primarily follows the story of Adelina Amouteru, one of many people scarred by a horrible disease that struck her world about ten years before the beginning of the story and caused her to lose one of her eyes.

Many other children who were afflicted by the disease developed other tell tale scars. Because of a following 10 years of chaos and a general state of ill-being throughout the kingdom of Estenzia, where the story takes place, has caused people to see these children as demons and bringers of bad luck.

Because of this Adelina grew up not only with a prejudice against her from the rest of the world but from her abusive father as well. This eventually leads her to running away from home and being caught up in the beginnings of a revolution.

The books creates an interesting world and cast of characters that one would expect of Marie Lu. The world is rich in lore and there are multiple in depth and complex characters.

However the book does not make as much sense in the form of logic. THe more supernatural elements are explained well but some of the story just stands out as not right and the timeline seems off for how much happens in a short amount of time.

The story tends to not flow very well but if you have a high enough suspension of disbelief than this is definitely a book that will stand out in your memory for a long time.

This book is definitely worth checking out but only if you are a regular reader that can still enjoy and understand a book that may not always make sense logically. The world and the characters however make these errors in logic well worth going through.
