Stranger Things captivates Netflix audiences

Stranger Things is a wonderful mix of The Goonies, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and The X-Files. In this Netflix series that debuted this summer, when one of their friends, Will Byers, goes missing, three boys grab their bikes and walkies, and go on a mission to find him. On the way they meet a waffle-loving telepath, explore an alternate dimension, and uncover a secret government operation.

This small-town group of nerds goes out on an expedition to prove that their friend is still alive and, on the way, they encounter a mute girl by the name of Eleven (El for short) who has telekinetic abilities and who has the ability to travel to other dimensions. With the help of Eleven, their science teacher, Mr. Clarke, and the town sheriff, Dustin, Lucas and Mike, in true coming-of-age fashion, set out to find their friend and end up finding much more than they were expecting.

This series has a wonderful mix between sci-fi and drama, bringing both heart-pounding thriller and heart-warming relationships. It has an odd way of adding something familiar to the scene while also exploring the supernatural.

This show adds to Netflix’s ever-growing list of hits, including Orange is the New Black, Making of a Murderer, Narcos, House of Cards, Sense 8, Jessica Jones, and Daredevil. And this list seems to be ever-growing for Netflix.

It may no longer for binge-watching TV shows that you’ve missed out on, though that’s always a fun way to spend a weekend. Netflix is now bringing its own stories to the table, and the ratings don’t lie -- they’re well-written and addictive.

Stranger Things received a 9.1 out of 10 stars on their IMDB page, making them 25th on IMDB’s Top TV Shows.

Rotten Tomatoes gave it an overall approval rating of 95% and said that Stranger Things is a “A love letter to the '80s classics that captivated a generation…”

Because of this, Netflix is drawing both the millennials who are already addicted to Netflix, and the generation who grew up watching Ghostbusters. This show is timeless, well-written, and perfect for even those who don’t typically enjoy horror. Stranger Things is a must-watch for Netflix users and TV fanatics alike.
