How to spend a summer in Ohio without constant boredom

If you’ve lived in Ohio for any longer amount of time, you know how little there is to do. We only have about three attractions in the entire state, including Cedar Point, corn fields, and Grandpa’s Cheese Barn if you count it. So what can Ohioans do this summer to avoid the downpour of boredom threatening to rain down every minute?

For Memorial Day weekend, Chagrin Falls is hosting its annual Blossom Time Festival. Beginning on Thursday, May 26th and ending Sunday, May 29th, the festival covers the first weekend of summer vacation and is a great thing to do over the weekend. Besides the typical carnival rides, foods, and parade, the festival also hosts a Hot Air Balloon Launch with dozens of the balloons flying over the town. Other festivals are hosted by Ohio towns throughout the summer, like Twins Days in August, and can be a great place to stop at for some excitement.

There’s also the Blossom Fest in Cuyahoga Falls, which hosts a summer concert series every summers. The series has already started and features all kinds of music throughout the summer months. Headliners include Florence and the Machine, Zac Brown, and Rascal Flatts in June; Keith Urban, the Warped Tour, G-Eazy, and Miranda Lambert in July; and Blink 182, Luke Bryan, and Def Leppard in August.

Besides the classic Indians games, there are also less expensive tickets available for the Akron Rubber Ducks. The baseball games are just as entertaining, and viewers can get a lot better seats because of the lower price.

Also in downtown Cleveland are the Museum of Art, the Museum of Natural History, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Although the permanent fixtures around the city have probably been visited by you and your family before, the museums and the zoo are always a fun thing to do and their content is always changing.

But what if you don’t want to leave your house this summer? Well for one, there’s the summer reading project to get done. Everyone should read at least one book over the summer in my opinion, and the new #GreenmenRead is a fantastic opportunity to share your reading on Twitter to get prizes like a Starbucks giftcard.

As a television aficionado, the one summer hobby I just can’t leave out is Netflix. Cue endless binge-watching of almost every television show on air, and by the time school is back in, you’ll have so much knowledge of television that even I might be impressed. I personally recommend Arrow, Daredevil, Breaking Bad, and House of Cards, but there are too many great shows to mention all of them.

So if you’re feeling that typical Ohio boredom beginning to surface again, be sure to check out some of these great events and catch up on some Netflix, before you begin to walk around our plentiful corn fields like a zombie. It happens, I swear.
