Midterms before break

This year students will be taking midterms before winter break allowing them to have a stress free relaxing holiday. Testing will take place on December 16th, 17th and 18th. After students return from break they will pick up with the third quarter leaving the second quarter in 2015.

Dr. Milcetich explained the reasoning behind this new change. Milcetich said, “The thought behind having midterms before break is that students will be able to finish the first semester and have real time off without having to be concerned about lingering school work and exams. Additionally, it is more efficient use of time, as do not have the time where we return to school after break, have to adjust back to school, have a week of instruction, then prepare for exams. Instead, we come back with a fresh start after Winter Break. Also, we will have more instructional time before the state assessments and AP exams in the spring with less time afterwards. Many schools in the area have already adjusted successfully to this new schedule.”

Most students are happy about the change because there will be no worrying about studying over the holiday break.

Senior Emily Keller expressed her happiness with the new schedule change. Keller said, “ I am very excited to take midterms before break because every year midterms fall on my birthday. Also, I will not be stressed about studying over break.”

Jordan Podojil who is also a Senior explained that regardless of the date midterms will be a stressful time. “I think it will be really stressful having exams before break because some teachers will not consider our studying when giving us additional homework. Although, it will be nice to not think about midterms during break,” said Podojil.

Freshmen Brynn Sesny expressed her readiness in taking midterms, but explained she wished they were after break. Sesny said, “Since this is my first time taking a midterm in every class I’m not really nervous because I feel my teachers have prepared me for the test. I would prefer midterms to be after break. I like being able to study without the stress of school plus all the additional homework we already have.”

AHS hopes midterms before break will be an easy transition and lead to lots of success and a stress free break. Goodluck and study hard!
