Back-to-back Powderpuff Champs
On October 26th, 2015 history was made. The Seniors won the powderpuff football game against the juniors with an exciting score of 28-7. This was the class of 2016’s second year winning the football game. To participate in the game one must attend 2 out of the 3 practices. Practices were held on Sundays from 5-7 where the girls scrimmaged and learned their plays and positions.
Tension was rising throughout the school day on Monday each class was ready to play hard and give it their all. Although it was bitterly cold and windy the Seniors girls continued to get physical and pull ahead. Senior, Julia Petersen sprinted an astounding 50 yards to score her team a touchdown.
“Scoring a touchdown felt great I was ecstatic although I was tired from all of the running. It was awesome to have all of my friends around me to celebrate in the end zone,” said Petersen.
Powder Puff facilitator Senior Hannah Jones helped organize and carry out the rules and regulations of powder puff.
She also played in the game and talked about the team's win and most enjoyable moment.
“We are awesome and athletic. I felt that the most enjoyable thing was the game itself. Seeing all the fans and winning really made all the hard work pay off,” said Jones.
The Juniors battled to get a point on the scoreboard and eventually did when Syarra Sellers scored the team's only touchdown.
Sellers said, “It felt relieving since my team was losing and I just wanted to do everything I could to help my team win!”
Fellow teammate, Jenna Geier expressed what a enjoyable time she had playing powder puff despite the team's loss.
Geier said, “I really loved playing powder puff. It was a great way for our grade to get together and bond. It was fun to see the coaches try and explain plays and positions to us girls. Overall it was a lot of fun and I can't wait for next year.”
Powderpuff was a wonderful way for Juniors and Seniors to learn team bonding and unity while having some friendly competition. Hopefully next year the class of 2017 will have their shot at redemption and bring home a win.
