AHS Royalty
This past weekend at the Friday night football game Craig Conley and Maddie Updyke were crowned Homecoming King and Queen. Conley and Updyke are both well known and respected students at AHS and were thrilled to accept their crown.
Homecoming King Conley is a starting varsity football player, runs track in the spring and recently won Rotary Student of the month. Conley is interested in attending The Ohio State University next fall to study sports medicine.
Conley expressed he was surprised and excited that he was voted homecoming king.
“I feel great! I wasn't sure if I was going to win because the band vote is pretty hard to beat out, but when they called my name I was really excited,” said Conley.
As Homecoming King, Conley wanted to show his appreciation to not only the student body but the fans that come and support the football team every week.
“I would like to say thank you and I really appreciate being voted for. Also, thank you to all the fans for coming to the football games every week and supporting the team. We really appreciate it. I know all the players, myself included love all the energy in the stands it helps us work hard every week especially last week against Copley!” said Conley.
Queen Updyke is involved in multiple clubs and organizations including National Honors Society, Student Council and Freshmen Mentorship Program. Her freshman and sophomore year, Updyke played for the AHS lady greenmen soccer team. Updyke would also like to attend The Ohio State University and major in medicine.
“It was such an honor to be nominated as Homecoming Queen. The night was truly amazing with all my friends and family there to support me. I believe at Aurora we have the greatest student body filled with talented, hard working students who always strive to be their best. So to be nominated by these people was truly amazing,” said Updyke after winning Queen.
Royalty is defined as being noble, loyal and honorable ironically Updyke and Conley both present these characteristics in their everyday life.
