Marching Band receives new Director, Nabring for 2015 season
Aurora High School’s marching band has started off the 2015 season with a new band director, Edwin Nabring.
Nabring succeeded Lindsay Draime. He completed the district’s standard interviewing process in order to be hired.
After being assistant director for a number of years, Nabring is quite well versed in the workings of the program, and enjoys being a part of it.
“My favorite part of being the director of the Aurora High School Marching Band is the thrill of Friday night. The end result of all the students’ hard work is so fulfilling...knowing they did a great job is a blessing,” Nabring said.
Assistant Principal Brian Brookhart is familiar with the band program and has been a big part of marching band this year.
“Mr. Nabring is doing an outstanding job as head band director. He is passionate about marching band, very energetic, and is able to motivate the band to perform at their very best,” Brookhart said.
Even though Nabring has been involved with the band for many years, this is his first year as head director.
“I think Mr. Nabring is a great band director this year. He has really filled the spot quite well...he does a great job at correcting us...” said Senior trumpet player, Matt Vince.
Students enjoy having Nabring as a director, he wants them to enjoy band just as much as he does.
“He is always joking around and making rehearsal enjoyable but at the same time makes sure we get through everything we need which has made our band very successful,” said Junior clarinet player, Rachelle Love.
“He’s just like one of us. It’s awesome!” Vince said.
Nabring has implemented some changes to the program, small things such as a technique known as squad marching and giving the assistant drum major more responsibility.
“I feel the change has been for the better because it opens up leadership positions for more people in band,” said Junior assistant drum major and saxophone player, David Puzder.
All of the things Mr. Nabring has done this year have been a help to improve the band’s sound and look, making their overall performances superior. He encourages students to practice at home in order to get better, but to still have fun and enjoy themselves.
Draime, succeeded by Nabring still helps in class and will continue her position of Symphonic band conductor when the concert season begins.
