Junior, Senior drivers experience parking difficulties
Junior and Senior drivers at Aurora High School in 2015 -2016 are encountering problems due to the limited parking spots available in the junior and senior lot.
There are three parking lots for student drivers. The junior/ senior lot, the baseball lot and the stadium lot.
Media Clerk, Vicki Wolf, who sells parking passes said, “There are 386 available parking spots. To date 335 parking passes have been sold. The juniors and seniors are permitted to park in all three of the lots available. The sophomores are the only ones required to park in the stadium lot, so it is open to juniors and seniors.”
There has been an increase in the number of juniors driving this year, causing the junior/ senior lot to fill up quickly.
Junior, Caeley Blechschmid finds if she arrives at school at 7:30, most of the parking spots in the junior/ senior parking lot are already filled.
“It would make me late if I was trying to find a spot in the junior/ senior lot because if there weren’t any left I would have to drive around the entire school for the next available parking spot,” Blechschmid said.
Blechschmid’s problem is common for students who usually park in the junior senior lot.
Junior Nicole Eastman said, “The times that the junior senior lot was filled, I parked in the stadium lot and it took some extra time walking into school.”
Administration has taken the initiative toward fixing this problem. In recognition of senior seniority, administration has advised juniors, to park in the stadium lot.
However, when more sophomores start to drive, this problem could get worse, since there are only 51 parking spaces available right now.
Blechschmid advised, “The school should make a new parking lot.”
Wolf who has a different perspective, said, “I do not think there needs to be a new or bigger lot for school drivers.”
This situation needs to be closely examined, for there is a likely growth in the number of student drivers that might eventually outnumber the parking spots available. This problem cannot be parked elsewhere.
